Picture a Tuesday afternoon on the interstate. The truck is loaded, the schedule is tight, and something feels slightly off. Maybe a soft vibration through the wheel. The thing that stranded you was talking to you the whole time.

Semi Truck Electrical Faults That Kill the Start
Not every breakdown announces itself with smoke or noise. Some just leave you with a truck that will not turn over. The usual suspect is the battery. High or low temperatures, aging parts, and parasitic loads will reduce your battery’s life or even destroy it.
Another potential source of problems for the battery is the alternator, which poses less danger because it first signals its malfunction to those who understand its symptoms. An alternator may manifest as a gradual dimming of light bulbs and dashboard lights, and a dead battery when trying to start your vehicle.

The repair costs are not small, but they are a rounding error next to a new engine. An EGR valve typically runs 600 to 1,500 dollars, and a cooler replacement usually costs 2,000 to 5,000 dollars. Paying that early beats paying for a rebuild later, every single time.
Semi Truck DPF Clogs That Force a Derate
The modern-day diesels have an emissions stack that keeps them compliant, and it is also a source of issues that can cause them to stop operating. The diesel particulate filter catches soot and incinerates it during regeneration. But if this process does not work efficiently, the filter clogs, leaving less horsepower for the truck. This has to do with mileage. If a truck has traveled from 300,000 to 450,000 miles, the aftertreatment problems happen often and cost money.
