Witness Wednesday – Ubuntu

What experience of the presence of the divine can you speak to?

Where has grace moved in your life?

Ubuntu:  "I am because we are."

Yesterday, I spent it with a couple young people from detention hiking to a lake. As we drove 1.5 miles into the mountain and then hiked 2.2 miles to the lake, I noticed the teamwork taking place between the young men and I noticed the purity of the area we were in. The connection is the cooperation. It takes cooperation to make teamwork. It takes cooperation to maintain a pure  environment. It takes cooperation to have a new vision for troubled youth.

I have included two photos that just made me laugh. Humor is universal.

I am because we are.

“What I've come to learn is that the world is never saved in grand messianic gestures, but in the simple accumulation of gentle, soft, almost invisible acts of compassion, everyday acts of compassion. In South Africa they have a phrase called ubuntu. Ubuntu comes out of a philosophy that says, the only way for me to be human is for you to reflect my humanity back at me. ”

Zoom in on the tree in the center. It has a sign on it.

What story do you have to tell?

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
