What experience of the presence of the divine can you speak to?
Where has grace moved in your life?
Coming back from vacation, I can only tell you that the spectacular beauty of the Pacific NW - whether sunny or rainy - stirs my heart. In particular, one day we went to Mt. St. Helen. It was a very cloudy day. We drove almost as high up as we could (into the snow!), gazed out at Castle Lake from the North, and could see where Mt. St. Helen was supposed to be (looking at the photo, travel up the cliff and the next peak is Mt. St. Helen)! It was totally swallowed up by the clouds. We knew, however, that Mt. St. Helen is twice as tall as the surrounding peaks. Where the divine appears is in the cycle of resurrection that the land has experienced. When the mountain blew in 1980, this area was devastated. But new life is coming back. And it is coming back in a new and different way! The story becomes, then, in our own lives, when our figurative mountains blow, what new life can we bring forth?
“No, this is not the beginning of a new chapter in my life; this is the beginning of a new book! That first book is already closed, ended, and tossed into the seas; this new book is newly opened, has just begun! Look, it is the first page! And it is a beautiful one!”
