Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend.
I was fully reminded what it means to be grateful yesterday. A young woman I work with has been through every trauma possible in the past 4 weeks. She appears tough, but she is really very vulnerable. At the same time she has been traumatized, random people have surrounded her with loving kindness. And again, the people of Lake Washington UMC spontaneously stepped up this week and took her to a job interview. Why? Because they genuinely care for the lost, the least, and the lonely. And you know what? She got the job. And she is overjoyed to have that minimum wage job. Thanks be to God!
From homeless to shelter.
From jobless to employed.
From used to loved.
Shalom and amen!
