Daily Prayer: Twenty Minutes of Silence

meditation, prayer, Prayer Practice

Meditation Moment in the Mountains

inspiration, meditation
I wanted to share a moment of silence with this video of Lake Tomahawk in Black Mountain, NC. Since I live alone right now, I'm trying to learn to be okay with silence. It's hard to get used to. Background noise from the TV is my companion when I don't want to concentrate fully or think too deeply. Music can be soothing--sometimes in a negative way. It distracts me from my feelings. "I make monastic silence a protest against the lies of politicians, propagandists and agitators..." — Thomas Merton, In My Own Words I wish Thomas Merton were still alive. I'd love to hear his responses to life in the year 2016. If he could have imagined what we are living now, what would he have said? I saw this quote, amazingly enough, on Wikipedia. I think I'll let this stand on its own.
