Word:  The country that is ever present on my mind is Syria. It seems the people are caught in an unresolvable situation. President Assad, supported by world governments against ISIS, has been known to use chemical weapons against his own people. He is a bad actor. And ISIS, the group that is essentially coming to the rescue of many of the Syrians, is also a bad actor (for all the reasons we know of). In the middle, between a terrorist state and a terrorist group lies ordinary people. This is the litany written by the Council of Bishops of the AME denomination. The AME denomination is the home of Mother Emmanuel AME in Charleston, SC, where the massacre of 9 church members took place. I used this in liturgy last Sunday but want to continue the hope that is contained within the message from the AME. I also want to privilege their voice over my voice in this instance. ...
