What do you mean rising from the dead is not enough?

Lenten Reflection Jesus said to the Pharisees: "There was a rich man who dressed in purple garments and fine linen and dined sumptuously each day. And lying at his door was a poor man named Lazarus, covered with sores, who would gladly have eaten his fill of the scraps that fell from the rich man's table. … But Abraham replied, 'They have Moses and the prophets. Let them listen to them.' He said, 'Oh no, father Abraham, but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent.' Then Abraham said, 'If they will not listen to Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded if someone should rise from the dead.' -Luke 16:19-31 Thoughts I am especially caught by the line “neither will they be persuaded if someone should rise from the dead.”  Hello!  This is the story of Jesus!  A...

Hakuna Matata

Christianity, Lenten Journey Participants, Religion, Scripture, Spirituality, Theology
Lenten Reflection You will free me from the snare they set for me, for you are my refuge. Into your hands I commend my spirit; you will redeem me, O LORD, O faithful God. I hear the whispers of the crowd, that frighten me from every side, as they consult together against me, plotting to take my life. But my trust is in you, O LORD; I say, "You are my God." In your hands is my destiny; rescue me from the clutches of my enemies and my persecutors. -Psalm 31: 5-6, 14-16 Thoughts What is a refuge?  A place of safety.  A place of beauty.  A place where the natural world can simply be.  No worries.  My favorite coffee cup says “Hakuna Matata” – no worries.  I went through a very stressful time in my life where I reported a friend to DSHS for neglecting her children.  It was the hardest thin...

Theology of Abundance and Enough

Christianity, Discernment, Lenten Journey Participants, Luke, Religion, Scripture, Spirituality, Theology
There was this fancy pants waiter who would pour water by holding and moving the pitcher up and down in a fascinating and enchanting process. She had mad skills. Nobody ever got drenched with the living water unless they did something stupid. Lenten Reflection Jesus said to his disciples: "Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful. "Stop judging and you will not be judged. Stop condemning and you will not be condemned. Forgive and you will be forgiven. Give and gifts will be given to you; a good measure, packed together, shaken down, and overflowing, will be poured into your lap. For the measure with which you measure will in return be measured out to you." -Luke 6:36-38 Thoughts It is wonderful to think of the idea of grace overflowing.  Drenching us with her love.  It is like t...
