Tuesday’s Thoughts

Tuesday’s Thoughts

bible, Scripture
In Christianity, we have just traveled through epiphany. Epiphany is an "ah ha" moment but it is also specifically that time when Jesus is found by the magi in Christian scripture. We often travel through the whole story of the magi searching for Jesus, finding him, Jesus & family escaping to Egypt, then living there, Herod dying, and then Jesus & family returning home in five minutes. Yep. We go through about 5 years in 5 minutes. Rush rush rush. We do that very well. I decided to break up the readings so each major event occurred on a different day. Today is the day Herod orders all the children in Bethlehem killed. Gratitude for an MRI Epiphany

Gratitude for an MRI Epiphany

Gratitude, Spirituality, Theology
An MRI machine is surprisingly well suited for epiphanies. After all, you are required to be completely and utterly still, the machine is so loud that nothing can penetrate that noise, and for those 45 minutes you are not responsible for anything else. Laying there staring at the alien head sticker placed above my eyes, I suddenly saw the past year and a half laid out before me as if to say, "Look at what you have done and who you are! Don't you see the connections?" It was a moment of sheer connection with the Ground of Being within myself. My God and I in communion. I am so incredibly grateful! You see I have felt scattered and a bit lost since I graduated from Seattle University. Or at least that is what I thought was happening. I also los...

Christmas through the Eyes of Herod’s Little Sister

Christianity, Religion, Spirituality
I have started a series of dramatic readings for Christmas intended to be acted/dramatically read to children.  We are using them during Advent for our God'z Kidz Wednesday night group (Godly Play).  I thought having a dress-up box for the kids to play with fits right in with the Godly Play philosophy.  So, that's what we're doing!  I am also writing a little story book for the kids to take home and read the story in a more traditional manner.  If you use these stories, please understand that they are my creative work and I'd like to be credited. Here is the story of the Magi as told through the eyes of Herod's little sister Before beginning, get the church calendar out. Remind the children that we are in the time of Christmas still and that Friday is Epiphany. Epiphany is the day that Je...
