Today, I'm returning to sharing from The BeZine, our sister publication. I am sharing from a poem that Lisa Ashley wrote about the youth in detention that we encounter. (jail detention not after-school detention). Lisa and I have been working together for years. Even though we hardly ever see each other! We work different shifts on different days. :) Actually, I'll by sharing one of her poems today and one tomorrow.
A Child's Touch: A Poem from Juvenile Detention

He met his baby niece and toddler nephew
for the first time on that three-day special visit.
Each child was named for him,
the way his brother and sister honored him.

I'm sure some of you have seen the different ways to find your Word of the Year. People believe it is a more positive use of energy than listing resolutions that will most likely be broken by the middle of the second week of the year. I like Susannah Conway's process, so this is what I will go through to find my word for 2015. Bathing in the Light
A micropoetry sequence inspired by Isaiah 60, 1-6
though he had
only one book
its withered pages
contained the secrets
he had wandered
for decades to find
lost from his path
the woods were covered in fog
between the trees
between the leaves
he followed a light
that would bring him home
for as the Earth
