Where is your light today? What is leading you? What is giving you hope? Joy? Where are you finding G-d?
“A man should hear a little music, read a little poetry, and see a fine picture every day of his life, in order that worldly cares may not obliterate the sense of the beautiful which God has implanted in the human soul.”
― Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
There is a piece of music composed by John Rutter that is based on the priestly blessing found in Hebrew Scripture, Numbers 6:24-26
24 The Lord bless you and keep you;
25 the Lord make his face to shine upon you, and be gracious to you;
26 the Lord lift up his countenance upon you, and give you peace.
This song, this particular version by Rutter, was a constant for our lives because the Seattle Children's Chorus regularly performed it as a dismissal and blessing at the end of many of their concerts. Typically, if the auditorium was flexible enough, they would ring themselves around the audience and sing. The notes soaring towards you from everywhere, raining blessing, grace, and peacefulness. Just remembering sitting in the audience makes me cry! I always found G-d listening to these children/youth sing. And, well, Rutter! He's fantastic.
Below, you will find a recording (not Seattle Children's Chorus) of this priestly blessing. But here is a picture of the combined choirs of Seattle Children's Chorus from 2007 when both Kennedy and Colin (my kids) were in the choir (albeit at different levels!).
Shalom and Amen.
