I went looking for inspiration to write this post, and I discovered this picture. It's Interstate 40, a few exits away from the exit you take to get to my home. It doesn't look anything like this right now, of course.
I have always been drawn to sunflowers, and when I looked up their meaning, I think I know why. The sunflower's petals and stalk stretch toward the sun, a process called phototropism. The petals of the flower have been compared to the rays of the sun. It suggests warmth and happiness. Even as the days grow shorter and colder, the image of the sunflower will always make me smile.
If you look at the color yellow, it has meaning that backs this feeling up. The Bourne Creative blog says,
I've been gravitating toward yellow for a while. If the Minions can live a yellow life, why can't I? I just found this quote, and it says it well.
I really just want to be warm yellow light that pours over everyone I love.--Conor Oberst
Van Gogh would’ve felt right at home in that field of sunflowers!
