I originally posted this on Facebook but I want to share it here with a couple notes.
- I expect we will be updating the dead and injured numbers. Let go of being exact for the moment and sit in the enormity.
- I hardly ever pray with the traditional "Lord" language. Way to ballsy for me. But dropping into very traditional language at a time where we are combating issues of patriarchy and white male supremacy--it seems right and fit that I appeal to the male presentation of the divine. If you have other words, please feel free to zip out Lord and zip in any other thing to make it work for you.
- Originally, I meant to write "weapons of mass destruction that we hold in our hands" - meaning guns. But I accidentally wrote "weapons of mass distraction that we hold in our hands." I'm keeping the revised wording rather than correcting to my original intent. Maybe auto-correct spelling isn't horrible after all. That being said, I'm not coming down on devices. I'm coming done on relationship disconnect.
What prayer will you share today?
59 dead, 515 injured.
And the House is voting on lifting restrictions on silencers.
Lord forgive us for we know not how to love one another.
Lord forgive us for we value rightness above relationship.
Lord forgive us or we extol the virtues of violence and reject the ways of peace.
Lord forgive us for we create idols out of power and money and independence and reject the ways of community.
Lord forgive us for we seek solution before relationship.
Lord forgive us because we create weapons of mass distraction that we can hold in our hands and disregard the love that we hold in our hearts.
Lord forgive us because we uphold the systems of domination that are white supremacy and patriarchy and disregard alternative ways of living together that are peaceful and communal.
Lord forgive us for not crying together.
Lord forgive us for not loving together.
Lord forgive us for not seeing love in everyone we meet.
Lord forgive us for not seeing love in everything that exists.
Lord simply forgive us for not seeing Love.
For not being love.
