Mindful Monday: The night chant

I just read a post on a blog called 50 percent Dakini describing the author's recent retreat at Upaya Zen Center in Santa Fe, NM, with Roshi Joan Halifax. The sangha* recites a chant each evening consisting of the four bodhisattva** vows and the evening gatha***.

Creations are numberless, I vow to free them.
Delusions are inexhaustible, I vow to transform them.
Reality is boundless, I vow to perceive it.
The awakened way is unsurpassable, I vow to embody it.

Life and death are of supreme importance.
Time passes swiftly, and opportunity is lost.
Let us awaken, awaken.

DO NOT SQUANDER YOUR LIFE.
