Circus: Three Cinquain Reflections
circus
elephants perform
beautiful women soar
strong men battle tigers
roar
. . .
circus
sparkly, noisy
exciting, laughing, enjoying
the greatest show on earth
spectacle
. . .
circus
animals trained
compliant and docile
the whip’s force creating control
illusion
On March 28, 1881, “The Greatest Show on Earth,” also known as the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus, was formed. Reflect on circus.

Today’s Postings:
When I went to the circus I could feel their dismay,
While the elephants were eating cabbages and hay,
Wondering how the elephants could get on the trains,
Whisked across the ocean and set free on the plains,
While others enjoyed seeing elephants perform,
I would have preferred seeing them back in their norm……
My view entirely!
Sweet animals – elephants.
Much smarter, than we humans, give them credit. ~becca
when i realized that circus lost half its charm; then when i came to know about the tortures that performes face when they are being trained i fully lost interest in it. 🙁
Touched !
I think the only animal to willingly seek human companionship was the dog. All others we have bent to our need. The time was right for dogs to come in out of the cold, maybe in another few million years . . . .
Thank you very much for the visual.
I enjoyed your poems, but the circus itself is not my thing, as you will see from the tone of my two poems: http://vivinfrance.wordpress.com/2010/05/07/77/
I very much enjoyed the form of your poem, which gave me a nice summary of circus: ‘roar, spectacle, illusion.’
I don’t think I’ll be joining you on this one. Like Viv, I don’t like the circus.
Nice job on the prompt ~~

I enjoyed your circus verse. Here’s a quickie haiku which I haven’t posted:
Badly behaved dogs —

I’m so sorry you’re having trouble posting on my blog. I don’t know why that would be, but my anti-spam software may be misbehaving. I do know that it blocks posts using AOL’s browser. Then, when people switch to Explorer or another browser it’s usually okay. Sorry! It certainly is not deliberate on my part.
Charming … I have 3 big ones that would love to participate in a circus act! 😀

As a small child, I used to love to go to the circus with my family. I still do.
