I can't believe that it's been 30 years since the Americans with Disabilities Act was signed into law. If it's been difficult for do things as a person with a disability since that time, it would probably have been a nightmare before then. I never needed accommodations as a young person; but if I had, I had no way of knowing that was a possibility or how to ask for them.
If we need something to help us do things we need to do or get where we need to go, we can ask. At least there is the opportunity for basic access. It's certainly not enough, but it's better than nothing. I pray one day there will be a system that goes further and does more.
I don't mean to imply that people with disabilities are inspirational just for living their lives, but I'm thankful to see doors open where they were closed for so many years.
