Grateful in Recovery

Hello fellow readers! I am sorry that I'm just now getting to write this Gratitude Friday post nearly halfway through the day. Last night was a night where I really needed to listen to what my body was telling me it needed, which was as much sleep as I could get.

So I'm sitting here at a local coffee shop sipping on a vanilla caramel macchiato which is my go-to drink at ANY coffee shop. I have finished my treatment program for the week which was very interesting and challenging to get through. Which is why I've chosen this week to write about being grateful in recovery.

As I type this post I have been able to string together a total of 17 "Just For Today" without putting any mind or mood altering chemicals in me to deal with life on life's terms. My perspective while I was actively using was irratic, irrational, and extremely distorted thinking. This time around in recovery I've noticed that my perspective has begun to become more aligned with rational, true thinking patterns as I am able to string more days together without picking up that next drug.

A revelation or a moment of clarity (whatever you would like to call it) came to me recently. I have decided that this time around that I am going to pretend like I do not know anything about the program whose meetings I've been attending for the last two years. I am hoping and praying that by adopting this new and fresh attitude that I will become more open-minded and willing to trying new things and taking each suggestion that comes from people who are serious about their recovery. I need to wipe the slate clean of everything that I think I know because apparently what I think I know isn't working because I continue to pick up the next chemical.

Starting with a fresh slate in my program is essential I believe to my success this time around. If I want to get this new way of life - I have to be willing to do things that I have never done before. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results.

Well that is enough for this week's post folxs. I hope you wonderful peeps have a great weekend!

Blessings of the Divine and Sacred,

Brian Lee
