Daily Prayer from the News 2015.12.09

Let my heart rise up to meet mercy, my voice to meet compassion, my hands to meet action.

The Sea and the Bells
From My Journey
by Pablo Neruda, translated by April Bernard

From my journey I circle back—
Why didn’t I return to my homeland,
the streets, countries, continents, islands
I once owned and called home?
Why, instead, did this borderland choose me;
and what does this haven offer
but a wind that whips at my face
and flowers blackened and beaten down
by the long winter?
Oh, they accuse me, saying: He is
so lazy, Master of Rust,
who cannot bear to leave
his hard haven—
he just slowed, then stopped
until his eyes turned to stone
and the ivy veiled his gaze.

For the oppressed and weary
Especially for #blacklivesmatter and
for the LGBTQIAP community.
For good examples of loving hearts,
for President John Magufuli of Tanzania
for Louise Hope of Sydney
For the hope of peace breaking out
for the ceasefire brokered for the city of Homs, Syria
for the 100+ Syrian people meeting in Riyadh discussing peace
For violence around the word
for words that divide and wound
for all shooting victims
For the people of Cape Verde, The Gambia, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, and Senegal
For those who suffer, especially the homeless and sick
For those we love, those we hate and those we are indifferent to
For the transformation from ME to WE

May Peace Prevail on Earth.

Lord’s Prayer
Translation by Neil Douglas Klotz, Sufi

O Birther! Father-Mother of the Cosmos,
Focus your light within us— make it useful:
Create your reign of unity now-
Your one desire then acts with ours,
as in all light, so in all forms.
Grant what we need each day in bread and insight.
Loose the cords of mistakes binding us,
as we release the strands we hold
of others’ guilt.
Don’t let surface things delude us,
But free us from what holds us back.
From you is born all ruling will,
the power and the life to do,
the song that beautifies all,
from age to age it renews.
Truly— power to these statements—
may they be the ground from which all
my actions grow: Amen.

May Peace Prevail on Earth. Amen. So mote it be.

"Amen" means "may it be so."
"May peace prevail on earth." is an addition inspired by a practice Michael Dickel does.
"So mote it be." is an addition inspired by a practice Deborah Globus, LaPadre, does.
