Advent’s Children (an Advent Reflection)

Advent's Children
by Charis Irena

Advent's Children wait in silence
grieving, they will speak no more
and voiceless they remain

Someone did not stop to listen
softly they made their appeal
spoke once, but not again

They cried for love and freedom
heedless others passed them by
deaf ears nothing gain

Advent's Children weep the future
their world, clouded it will be
tears mix with the rain

Advent's Children wait in silence
grieving for a time to come
and voiceless will remain.

Happy are those whose help is the God of Jacob,

    whose hope is in the Lord their God,
who made heaven and earth,
the sea, and all that is in them;
who keeps faith forever;
    who executes justice for the oppressed;
who gives food to the hungry.

The Lord sets the prisoners free;
    the Lord opens the eyes of the blind.
The Lord lifts up those who are bowed down;
the Lord loves the righteous.
The Lord watches over the strangers;
he upholds the orphan and the widow,
but the way of the wicked he brings to ruin.

10 The Lord will reign forever,
your God, O Zion, for all generations.
Praise the Lord!
