Most of the time, when Republicans tackle issues in education, it's like a pig farmer getting involved in catering a bar mitzvah dinner or Maker's Mark providing beverages for the celebration of the end of Ramadan, i.e., disasters-in-progress in mortal competition to find the optimal place to actually occur. But Republicans -- we may be certain through sheer accident -- did an absolutely stellar job inadvertently educating the American public about ACA / Obamacare (hereafter O’care). (Remember: the Affordable Care Act [ACA] and O’care are the same thing.) In fact, Republicans did such a good job educating Americans about health care / insurance in general, and about O’care in particular, that, with a bit of luck, we may be able to leverage the paradigm implicit in the Republicans’ drun...

In the honorable tradition  of Edward Snowden, I now undertake to disclose to you, loyal readers of your ever-vigilant Skeptic-In-Residence, certain facts that, thanks to indefatigable and painstaking minutes of web-surfing research, I became privy to concerning a clandestine space project directed by NASA, the Defense Department, the CIA, the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, CalTech, the National Examiner, National Enquirer, Star, Sun, Fate magazines, and similarly venerable  print media-of-record, with indispensable assistance from their counterparts in Canada.  The intent of the project was to send an unmanned craft to rendezvous with, explore, and even return a sample or a small asteroid with which the earth had a near encounter in early 2013. Despite the cloak of official secrecy that h...

It doesn't happen very often that a mere chance utterance ends up subverting the secrecy surrounding what one would have thought were the most clandestine matters pertaining to the security of the Nation. For example, there was the dropped cigar case, containing Gen. Robert E. Lee's detailed plans for the approaching Battle of Antietam, the sheerly accidental finding of which by a lowly Union Army private fundamentally altered the outcome of the battle, contributing to the Federal victory and thereby convincing President Lincoln to issue the Emancipation Proclamation. Now we have Kellyanne Conway's ill-advised oh-by-the-way reference to "microwaves" as the medium former President Barack Obama used to spy on the goings-on in Trump Tower during the run-up to the 2016 Election. Since the ...
