silence

Sound of Silence
Sound of Silence by philomena o'dea

when i am present,
i hear the silence
of the humm of the dryer,
the laughter of children,
the snoring of the cat.
all the small,
silent sounds of life.
when i am present.

and when you're not present what do you hear? While I'm waiting for angel's voices I hear the fluttering of wings, inner voices of peace, and stones proclaiming the presence of God.

I think that when I am not present, when I'm not really showing up, I hear the noise of my own ego clammoring for attention. But when I can put that aside, becoming present lets me hear (and love) life which ultimately points to the Kingdom of God.
