Perhaps not mourning but celebrating. Each day civilization slides in closer, squeezing available space, spraying and killing lower life forms, polluting the air, and changing their world. But, like me, they choose to celebrate each moment of life, counting each day as a bonus day and happy to be alive. Should you see me at an intense moment I would be flinging my arms upward in praise shouting,"Thank God, I'm alive!" And that also explains the birds, not mourning what they don't have but celebrating what they do have.
