Dear Daughter

Caitlyn, Dear Daughter, Father's Day 2001.  Photo by Terri Stewart.

you travel through time
with all of its fluffy marshmallow clouds
and dense storm clouds
and i know you are looking for
sunbreaks of the soul

what you may not know
until you are older and wiser
is that you are the clouds
and the water
and the mountains
and the valleys

you are the sunbreak
of my soul

Our daughters and sons are the centers of our worlds, the ongoing miracles of life. They are our love in another form and taken to a higher level, allowing us to escape our own selfish shells. You are the sunbreak of my soul says that very eloquently.

Thanks, Dan! I'm having shock this year with one graduating high school and the other getting her driver's permit. Augh!

This brought tears to my eyes, and I don't even have a daughter. Or a son, for that matter. The last lines were the most poignant: "you are the sunbreak of my soul"
