Scripture
John 17:12-19

Call to Worship

Jesus protects us in the name of the Holy Abba God.
He guards us, loves us, and keeps us.

Thank you, Lord Jesus.

Jesus prays for us so that our joy may be complete.
He gives us the word, calling us to the Kingdom of God.

Thank you, Lord Jesus.

God sanctifies us in truth and in love.
God calls us further into wisdom.

Thank you, Abba God.

Spirit searches us and brings a new vision.
She comforts and advocates for us.

Thank you, Holy Spirit.
In the name of the three-in-one,
Creator, Christ, Spirit,
Amen.

Opening Prayer
Gracious God of love and mercy,
You have protected and loved us so completely providing us with Love incarnate. Open our hearts today that we may be comforted, held, protected, and challenged to become more fully your Love in the world so that we become the comforter, the holder, the protector, and the challenger on your behalf. Through Jesus Christ who prays for us and loves us, Amen.

Prayer for Illumination

Lord, open our hearts and minds
by the power of your Holy Spirit,
that, as the Scriptures are read
and your Word proclaimed,
we may hear with joy what you say to us today.
Amen.

Response to the Message

Let us pray.

O Lord,
Your steadfast love offers us
comfort, safety, love and wisdom.
Be with us as we are challenged with
people who hate,
people who scorn, and
people who lack understanding.
Help us to be the face of love even
when we face adversity.
All we need is you.
Shalom and Amen.

And now we bring to you, O God, Comforter and Protector, the needs of each other and the needs of the world.

Prayers of the People

Mighty God of compassion, we thank you for the promise that you will keep us safe and that your love will give us the strength to face adversity. Especially we thank you for

the gifts and talents of all your children…
the promise of the Holy Spirit and all gifts of comfort…
the sustaining love of family and friends…
the fellowship of faith in your church…

Loving God, we give you thanks.

Gracious God, renew this weary world, heal the hurts of all your children, and bring about your love for all in Christ Jesus, the living Lord. Especially we pray for

those who are hurt and those who hurt others…
nations of the world that are at war…
children who are pressed into servitude…
communities of faith in all places…

Merciful God, hear our prayer.

For what else do we pray?

     …Loving God                      …Merciful God
We Give you thanks         Hear our prayer

Concluding Collect
Reconciling God,
You still our souls with your loving presence.
Hold our petitions and our joys in your hands
and bring our joy to completion.
In the name of Incarnate Love,
Amen.

Ecumenical Lord’s Prayer
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and for ever. Amen.

Pass the Peace
Please turn to one another and greet each other with the peace that is Comforter and Love.

Benediction

People of God, hear now the promise of the Lord our God.
When you hurt, God heals.
When you fear, God comforts.
When you sorrow, God cries.
When you love, God smiles.
God promises to hold you in the palm of God’s hand.
Always and forever.
Amen.

  1. Terri, this part of one of the liturgical prayers here is just what I needed today:
“Be with us as we are challenged with
    people who hate,
    people who scorn, and
    people who lack understanding.
Help us to be the face of love even
    when we face adversity.
    All we need is you.
    Shalom and Amen.”
